This is an alternate build for the LEGO Creator Fast Car (30187) set. This is another one of the small LEGO Creator sets. This set only comes with 56 pieces and plans for one creation. I love the challenge of creating a good alternate design for these small LEGO Creator sets. This MOC is a micro flatbed truck with tilting bed.

eBay Watch: LEGO Harry Potter: Hogwarts Castle (4842) – CLOSED

LEGO Harry Potter: Hogwarts Castle

LEGO Harry Potter: Hogwarts Castle

This is another beautiful set from the LEGO Harry Potter line.  It is a very large set with 1,290 pieces and 11 minifigs.  This is the LEGO Harry Potter set that I think all Harry Potter fans wish they could own.  Let’s break down the numbers on this set:

Orignal MSRP: $129.99
Starting Bid: $0.99
Released: 2010
Auction Link

Check back later this week for the auction results.

UPDATE:

The auction sold with is a price of $270.  That is just a little over double of the original price.  It looks I should have invested in LEGO Harry Potter four years ago.  I wonder if there any LEGO lines out right now that will soar in value so soon…

This is an alternate build for LEGO Creator Mini Skyflyer 31001. I love these small LEGO Creator sets. They typically have 50 to 100 pieces and have instructions for three separate models. I will try to get a review of this set and it MOCs at Rebickable posted soon. I have created some instructions in case anyone wants to make their own LEGO Galactic Cruiser.

LEGO Classic Barn MOC

If your LEGO collection is anything like mine then you probably have buckets of 4×2 bricks and an assortment of other 2 width bricks. My daughter and I were playing LEGOs the other day and we decided to try to build a house out of the red 2×4 bricks I have in my collection. As most LEGO projects go, the house evolved and turned into a barn. I didn’t have enough red bricks to make it all red so we made the loft area yellow. We choose blue for the roof to give it that Classic 1970s Legoland look. I have created some instructions in case anyone wants to make their own LEGO Classic Barn.

LEGO Disney Princess – Ariel’s Magical Kiss Review

LEGO Disney Princess Ariel's Magical Kiss

LEGO_Ariel_Set

Introduction

LEGO Disney Princess – Ariel’s Magical Kiss is the latest LEGO set that I put together with my daughter. The Little Mermaid is currently her second favorite Disney movie behind Frozen. There aren’t any Disney Frozen LEGO sets yet so we decided on The Little Mermaid.  This set is based on the boat ride that Prince Eric and Ariel take in the middle of the movie. In this scene the animals are trying to get Prince Eric to kiss Ariel to break the spell and regain her voice.

Quick Stats:
Pieces: 250
Released: 2014
Price: $29.99
Set Pieces: 5
Minifigs: 2

Set Pieces

LEGO_Ariel_Tree The Willow Tree set piece is very strong piece in this set. Besides the main building this would be my favorite. Even though it doesn’t have many pieces it has a nice visual look when it is finished.

LEGO_Ariel_FrogThe Frog Set piece is a little over simplified. I am not sure why LEGO didn’t do more with this piece. It looks a little small and cheap with the rest of the set. I would have preferred that they added the frog to the tree or created a larger animal stand.

LEGO_Ariel_BoatThe Boat set piece is very cute but it is more of a toy than a LEGO. The boat is comprised of one solid piece with studs on the inside to attach LEGO pieces to. I would have preferred a boat you could construct over a completed piece.

LEGO_Ariel_Dock_2
LEGO_Ariel_Dock_1

The Dock piece is a well designed piece that fits well with the theme. The plant pieces add color and and nice organic look.

LEGO_Ariel_Building_1
LEGO_Ariel_Building_2

The Main Building is the primary piece in this set. It contains a table with two thrones and a lookout with a telescope. The piece is very attractive and fits the theme perfectly. I really only have one complaint with it. When you set the Ariel minifig in her seat at the table she doesn’t fit perfectly; her hair makes her lean forward over the table.

Minifigs

LEGO_Ariel_and_Eric
LEGO_Ariel_and_Eric_back

The minifigs are amazing LEGO replicas of Ariel and Prince Eric. The minifigs are LEGO Friends sized and not the traditional size minifigs.

Favorite Brick

LEGO_Ariel_Window_ArchThe set includes three of these beautiful window pieces. When it comes time to tear this set down I look forward to using these in my own creations. I think they would work well as a store front or a fun classic building look.

Conclusion

PROS:

  • Fits the theme well.
  • Has some nice reusable pieces like the windows, tower railings, and tree pieces.
  • Good minifigs
  • My daughter has lots of fun making up stories with this scene

CONS:

  • I would have preferred larger set pieces instead of 5 set pieces.
  • The boat is more toy than LEGO.
  • The theme may not appeal to everyone

I would recommend this set to anyone that the theme appeals to but you money may be better spent elsewhere if Disney Princesses are not your style.

Reliving My Childhood – A Rebrickable Review

Rebrickable

Rebrickable

Rebrickable is my new favorite LEGO resource. For those of you that are not familiar with Rebrickable, the site manages your LEGO collection and then suggest designs you can build with your LEGOs. After you add your loose LEGOs and LEGO sets to your profile on their site you can access Rebrickable’s build page and see what designs you can build. The results include both official LEGO sets and MOCs (my own creation) submitted by other users.

The real benefit for me was being able to input all those loose LEGOs from my childhood and seeing what sets I could build. It has been 15 to 20 years since I had really used my LEGOs and there was no way I was going to remember what sets I had. It turns out I didn’t loose as many pieces as I could have. Below is list of official LEGO sets I have the highest percentages of pieces for. There are about 15 sets that I have 80% or more of the pieces.

Rebrickable Build Results

Besides being able to find what official LEGO sets you can build you can also see results of what MOCs you can build. I have already built a couple and will get reviews of them up later.

Rebrickable MOC Results

Overall Rebrickable is an amazing LEGO resource for many reasons. I have really just started to scratch the surface of everything that you can do at Rebickable. I have already submitted my first MOC at Rebrickable, Wearable LEGO Glasses, and hope to get some feedback or comments soon. You can find out more about Rebrickable on their About Us page.

eBay Watch: LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (10217) – CLOSED

LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (10217)

LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (10217)I wasn’t paying attention to the LEGO world for well over a decade and I am really sad about some of the sets that I missed out on.  The saw this set on eBay and wish I would have bought it when it was new and reasonably priced.

Orignal MSRP: $149 (I doubt I would have bought it then either due to the price….)
Starting Bid: $175
Released: 2011
Auction Link: LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley (10217)

Check back later this week for the auction results.

UPDATE:
Auction Sell Price: $230.11

If you had invested the $149.99 in the S&P 500 you would roughly have $227 now. Looks like LEGO Harry Potter Diagon Alley is a better the better investment!
